the last show

this week i went to the movies alone. not because no one would come — i think i just wanted to see what an empty theater feels like from the inside. it turns out it still has plenty to say, even with the lights down and no one else in the seats.

the seat

A small cream art toy collectible sits alone in a red velvet cinema seat, seen from behind, beneath a beam of projector light aimed at a blank glowing screen. Dim, ornate theater interior, evoking quiet solitude.

i used to think i wanted the big screen to myself. now it's just quiet.

the marquee

A small cream art toy collectible stands on a wet sidewalk at dusk, looking up at an illuminated blank cinema marquee ringed with round bulb lights. Blue hour palette, evoking quiet anticipation.

stood under the lights a while before i noticed the sign said nothing at all.

the counter

A small cream art toy collectible stands at an empty vintage cinema concession counter beside a glowing popcorn machine and striped popcorn boxes. Warm brass tones, evoking quiet stillness.

the popcorn machine was still on. nobody there to sell it to me.

the window

A small cream art toy collectible stands in profile beside an ornate brass ticket booth window, a single worn ticket stub resting on the ledge. Low warm light against a dark lobby, evoking quiet wonder.

found a ticket someone left behind. didn't open it. just looked at it a while.

the booth

A small cream art toy collectible stands beside an old film projector in a cluttered booth, a beam of light cutting through visible dust toward a small window. Mixed warm and cool tones, evoking quiet discovery.

this is where it all comes from. one small room, throwing light through the dark.

the aisle

A small cream art toy collectible stands alone in the aisle of an empty theater, facing a glowing white screen, rows of red velvet seats receding on either side. High contrast, evoking quiet finality.

stayed till the screen went white. didn't want to be the one who left first.
